Scrutineering at Central Europe Rally
At first, scrutineering looked like it might be a dreary day as rain poured down on every team that offered their cars to be tested. Fortunately, the clouds soon started to disperse, and every now and then the sun cast its rays over a lively Budapest. Scrutineering commenced rapidly and everyone's mood was lifted. In Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart spirits were high too, because today was the premiere of their new vehicle.
In Lisbon all four teams drove a Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution MPR13, but this time one team will start in the new Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution MPR14, which has 6 cylinders and a diesel engine. Outwardly the only apparent differences between the cars are the large air intake just above the windscreen, and the slightly different set of colours to underline its more environmentally friendly character. A stylish green stripe has been added to the hood and the skirts.
The MPR14 is a clean diesel that will be tested extensively in this rally. Its achievements are followed with great expectations - will it live up to the standards set by the MPR13? Mitsubishi's introduction of the MPR14 is their response to the ever increasing demands on CO2 emissions, even from ASO. In 10 days time, we will know where it stands in this group of 84 contestants.
